My Nikon Coolpix S230 won't transfer pictures?

Everytime I go to transfer pictures from my camera, I run into this problem. Nikon Transfer will pull up successfully and find my camera. However, no matter how long it is left sitting there, pictures will not show up to select and download. I have tried transferring from My Computer, but that didn't work either because it wouldn't allow me to explore the folder. I also have no card reader slot, which works just fine on a laptop. I thought it might be too many pictures on my memory card (about 1000), so i deleted about 200 and changed the auto off feature to 30 minutes, but that didn't work either because my camera disappeared off of the sources menu. I would also think that the program shouldn't be affected by this. Help?!?
