Do you think pit bulls shouldn't be allowed to be kept as pets?

It seems like the amount of pit butt attacks/deaths are rising every day. In Charlotte, (where I live) a 5 year old girl was murdered by two pit bulls because the owners failed to keep them chained or fenced in or whatever. A horse was minding its own business when it was attacked by two pit bulls, and the horse's owner saw it and had a heart attack. Those are just a few I've heard of, but really. It seems like it's always pit bulls that you hear about attacking people and animals. I mean, when was the last time you heard about a Labrador or a Beagle killing a child? My mom and I were talking about it and agreed that pit bulls shouldn't be kept as house pets because they are attack dogs and owners a lot of the time fail to properly train them, and as a result they are hurting people. They just don't seem like good house pets. What do you think? If you own a pit bull, feel free to tell me otherwise.
