Where to find stuff for acting/modeling on my own?

I have an agent but I'm just really into this stuff and I wanna do it every chance I get. Where can I find indie/short/feature films on my own, anything like that? Also I'm into modeling but don't have an agent for it, where can I maybe find photographers or open calls or something? I live in the Charlotte, NC area.
