I moved to charlotte from nj ?

I've been job hunting since august .I've had plenty of interviews with no job offers so far.but people I've met here have told me not to tell the potential employers I'm from up north. Has anyone else heard this b4k?if so whats up with this im pretty sure if my background check doesnt tip them off im sure my strong nj accent will.
